This 1990 Mitsubishi Pajero, first-generation 5-door in its classic golden color, carries a remarkable and deeply rooted history connected to both its original owner and the region where it spent most of its life.
The vehicle was purchased brand-new in 1990 by Seth Ali Bahadur Tanoli (known as Seth Sahab), a respected businessman and prominent social figure from Mansehra, shortly after it was imported into Pakistan. At the time, the Pajero cost approximately PKR 1,100,000, an extraordinary amount for that era. In today’s terms, this would be roughly equivalent to PKR 2.5–3.5 crore (25–35 million) in purchasing power, highlighting just how prestigious and rare such a vehicle was in the early 1990s.
During that time, Mansehra had very few cars, and luxury 4×4 vehicles were almost unheard of in the region. Seeing a brand-new Pajero driving through the town was something people would instantly notice. Because of this, the vehicle quickly became well-known locally.
Over time, the Pajero also gained its own identity. Due to its constant presence around Mansehra and its association with Seth Sahab, the vehicle became famous for its distinctive registration number: BM-12, commonly pronounced by locals in Urdu and Hindko as “BM Barah.”
Even today, decades later, the vehicle remains recognizable in Mansehra. Many people still remember it and immediately associate it with Seth Sahab when they see it. It continues to turn heads on the road, not only because of its classic presence but also because of the memories and recognition attached to it.
Powered by the legendary 4D56 Turbo Diesel engine, known worldwide for its durability and off-road capability, the Pajero served Seth Sahab faithfully for over 24 years. During his ownership, it was used extensively for travel across Pakistan. These journeys made the vehicle a witness to decades of travel across Pakistan’s highways, rugged mountain roads, and distant regions.
Despite its extensive use, the Pajero was always maintained with exceptional care. Seth Sahab was known for keeping his vehicle in excellent condition, ensuring consistent maintenance and preservation throughout its life.
Today, the vehicle remains within Seth Sahab’s extended family, preserving its original legacy and fandom.
More than just a classic first-generation Mitsubishi Pajero, this vehicle represents a unique story. From being one of the earliest and most noticeable vehicles in Mansehra to becoming known locally as “BM Barah,” it remains a true piece of automotive and regional history.
